MPowering Kids Announces
The Miriam Tresgallo Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Creates Living Legacy For Much Loved Educator

Westbury, NY, April 30, 2003 – MPowering Kids, a non-profit organization that provides tutoring and mentoring programs to motivated students in under-served communities, today announced the creation of the Miriam Tresgallo Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund was created in memory of Miriam Tresgallo, a kindergarten teacher who taught in the Yonkers, NY school district for the last 20 years.

“Miriam dedicated her life to working with students in under-served communities. This scholarship fund will continue Miriam’s legacy by ‘promising help to promising students™,’” according to Susan Marshall, founder and president of MPowering Kids.

The MPowering Kids program provides tutoring, mentoring, and cultural enrichment services to academically promising students beginning in the fourth grade. Once accepted into the program, students work with the MPowering Kids staff and volunteers for the next nine years, through their high school graduation. This multi-year process is designed to create a culture of achievement, characterized by high academic and behavioral standards, complemented by a warm and caring support team.

“It’s a measure of the impact Miriam had on so many lives that we’ve seen such an outpouring of support from the community for this scholarship fund,” noted Susan Marshall. “We look forward to continuously increasing the fund so that we may impact as many students as possible.”
