Westbury, NY, September 15, 2005 — MPowering Kids, a non-profit academic after-school program that provides tutoring, mentoring, and cultural enrichment for students in under-served communities, recently expanded its Board of Directors with the appointment of three new members. Rod Manalo, Roger Goodwin, and Catherine Sullivan are long-time supporters of numerous charitable organizations, have accepted invitations to join the MPowering Kids board. Mr. Manalo, an Associate in the Risk Arbitrage group at Citigroup Global Markets, Mr. Goodwin, a Senior Managing Director with Bear Stearns & Co., and Catherine Sullivan, Senior Vice President of News Sales bring exceptional community service backgrounds to MPowering Kids. Mr. Manalo has a long and impressive history of working with non-profit organizations serving under-privileged children, including Big Brothers Big Sisters and The GOTO Group, a NYC non-profit that immerses under-privileged children in art and music. Mr. Goodwin has been a key fundraiser and sponsor for the NY Police & Fire Widow’s & Children Benefit Fund, Tuesday’s Children and Chaminade High School, and is also a board member for Tuesday's Children. In addition, in his capacity as the Captain of the Plandome Volunteer Fire Department, he recently hosted a visit to the fire station by over 20 MPowering Kids students. Ms. Sullivan has a long personal interest in children's philanthropic causes. Ms. Sullivan is also involved with the the 9/11 foundation, whose mission is to help children of parents who perished on 9/11 get into and through college. “We are very pleased to welcome Rod, Roger and Catherine to the board of MPowering Kids,” said Susan Marshall, founder and president, MPowering Kids. “Their experience and knowledge will be a great benefit to our organization, and we are excited to be able to work with both of them." communities. After researching where a program such
as MPowering Kids would have the most impact, the
program was established at Drexel Avenue School with
the full support of the Westbury School District.
Since its inception, MPowering Kids has continually
worked closely with the school’s teachers and
administrators to enhance the academic promise of
