Westbury, NY, January 30, 2006 — MPowering Kids, a non-profit academic after-school program that provides tutoring, mentoring, and cultural enrichment for students in under-served communities, today received a $10,000 grant from Newsday Charities, a fund of the Robert R. McCormick Tribune Foundation. The funding will be used to help MPowering Kids continue to deliver its services to a growing number of academically promising yet under-privileged children in the Westbury School District.
“We are very pleased and honored that Newsday Charities has chosen to support MPowering Kids,” said Ms. Marshall. “The funding from sponsors such as Newsday Charities enables us to help our students acquire the skills, habits, and attitudes necessary to succeed in college and in life.”
Supporting The Community For Over 50 Years Newsday Charities is a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, which celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2005. Funds raised for Newsday Charities are matched 50 cents on the dollar by the Foundation, and 100% of the funds raised plus the match are given back to the community.
"Newsday's community affairs efforts focus on strengthening the future of our region by addressing the needs of young people in the communities we serve," said Dale Cole, Public Affairs Project Manager for Newsday. "Our young people represent the promise of the future, and it's our obligation to invest our resources to make a meaningful impact in their lives."
