MPowering Kids Throw Valentine's Party For Residents Of The Bristal Assisted

Living Facility

MPowering Kids “MPathy Community Service” Program Continues Outreach to Elderly Residents in the Community

Westbury, NY, February 10, 2006 — MPowering Kids, a non-profit academic after-school program that provides tutoring, mentoring, and cultural enrichment for students in under-served communities, today threw a Valentine's Day party for the residents of The Bristal Assisted Living in Westbury.

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, the students of MPowering Kids opened their hearts to bring some cheer to the residents of The Bristal Assisted Living facility . MPowering Kids' students served the residents cake & refreshments and handed out specially made Valentines. Students played cards with the residents and also interviewed them about their lives. One of the residents talked about going to school in a one room schoolhouse with multiple grades in the same room. With wide eyes, MPowering Kids' students listened attentively to these stories as well as many others shared by the residents.

The residents enjoyed the afternoon interacting with the friendly and curious students from MPowering Kids. “We are happy that the students of MPowering Kids could put a smile on the faces of so many.” said Susan Marshall, Founder of MPowering Kids. “Teaching our students the importance of giving back to the community is an integral component of MPowering Kids and we are certain that both the students and the residents of The Bristal Assisted Living facility found great joy in their visit together.”

This is the second successful trip that the MPowering Kids students have made to visit the Bristal residents. As always, both enjoyed their time together and learned a great life lesson in the process, and more visits by MPowering Kids are planned in the future.
