“Since my daughter has been in the MPowering Kids
program, she has learned to try her homework first, on her own, and then target the areas she has problems with for help. She used to want someone to help her with every single question. This is good, because when she is taking a test the other person is not going to be there to help her.”

the importance of integrity, ethics, and strong values. Through

Recreational Activities
Recreational activities are designed to provide our participants with a deeper purpose
and teach our students how to participate as part of a team or community.
For example, students might attend a ropes course or similar team-building program.
In addition to the educational opportunities and simple enjoyment these outings provide, the goal is to foster a "club" atmosphere and sense of belonging, peer acceptance and pride in the organization.

Family Participation
While MPowering Kids provides a network of support for its students, families constitute an essential source of strength and guidance for their children. We choose to work with families that value education and demonstrate a sincere commitment to helping their children succeed in school and in their quest for higher education. Parental involvement and accountability is considered an essential component of the program.

Summer Session MPowering Kids begins working with its participants in the summer between the student's third and fourth grade years,
and continues through out the nine years of the program. The summers
session focuses on field trips to museums and other cultural
destinations, family events, and study skills workshops.
Regular meetings in the summer promote a "club" mentality among the participants
that keeps them excited about learning and focused on obtaining a
college degree. Field trips and exposure to the Arts during the
summer months broadens the horizons of our students and provides
opportunities that their families may not be able to afford.
