ABC TV Visits MPowering Kids (Nov. 2010)
The students were given an advertising budget and had to figure out an effective way to spend their budget on advertising. They had to consider how much money they were willing to spend on each TV time slot, and if they wanted to spend their money on any other forms of advertising such as websites, bulletin boards.
Fire Safety Week (Oct. 2010)
During Fire Safety Week, Roger Goodwin a volunteer fire fighter and MPK Board Member, spoke about the dangers that fire fighters face, and reviewed basic fire safety precautions with the students.
MPowering Kids is a Member of the Westbury Early Years Institute Leadership Team (Nov. 2010)
The results of the Early Development Instrument Study, conducted in Westbury in the spring of 2010, were recently presented to the EYI Leadership Team. The Early Years Institute implemented the project to assess the vulnerabilities and assets of the community. The findings of this study will be used going forward, to develop a strategy to create a comprehensive community approach to afford Westbury children the services they need to be ‘school-ready’.
MPowering Kids High School Senior Named 1st in Her Graduating Class! ( Nov. 2010)
In 4th Grade, Keyry was in the first group of students chosen for the MPowering Kids program. She has been in the program every year since, and become an outstanding example of the benefits of the attention of consistant concerned adults, after-school tutoring and mentoring.
