Programs

Danielle, a local college student, excels at working one-on-one with students on their most difficult subjects.

MPowering Kids works intensively with students from their fourth-grade year through their high school graduation, offering nine years of programs and opportunities to acquire the skills, habits, and attitudes necessary to succeed in college and in life.

MPowering Kids is here to support students on the richly rewarding path of self discovery through education.  The program creates a culture of achievement, characterized by high academic and behavioral standards and complemented by a warm and caring support team.

The Essentials of the MPowering Kids Program

  •  Students receive personal attention and individualized college preparation.
  • We involve the parents, teachers, school administration and volunteers to ensure the students have wrap-around services and support.
  • While MPowering Kids provides a network of support for its students, families constitute an essential source of strength and guidance for their children.  We choose to work with families who demonstrate a sincere commitment to helping their children succeed in school and in their quest for higher education.  Parental involvement and accountability is considered an essential component of the program.

Students and their families commit to participating in the essential components of the MPowering Kids program, as follows:

Tutoring

MPowering Kids provides both one-on-one and group tutoring.  During one-on-one sessions, tutors offer homework assistance, long-term academic project help, and work with the students to improve their reading, listening and thinking skills.  MPowering Kids’ staff and volunteers also offer general homework help, reading, math and science enrichment activities, and instruction in improving study habits, time management and organizational skills.

Community Service Projects

MPowering Kids is committed to providing needed servicMPowering Kids' students the visit homebound elderlyes to its participants.  In return, students give back by helping others.  This reflects a core philosophy of the MPowering Kids program, where students learn to give back to others, to value their self-worth and to strive to benefit others.  The philosophy and “habit” of community service  becomes an integral part of each student’s lifestyle, allowing them to understand the importance of giving back to the community, experience the feeling of being needed by society and positively impacting the community at large.

Cultural Events and Recreational Activities

Cultural enrichment is a luxury not easily afforded by the families of our students. MPowering Kids arranges field trips to events our students would not otherwise see or experience, providing a broader vision of the world and allowing art to influence their dreams, aspirations and goals.

Enrichment Programs

Guest Lecturers -Provide exposure to a variety of careers, community service, health and social issues.

Bridging the Gap – Increases students’ literacy and technology skills.

Financial Futures – Prepares students for high school graduation and college with personal financial management skills.  Through this project, students learn to understand concepts that will directly influence their ability to make informed decisions about their own finances. They become part of the solution in their own community by becoming adults who pay into the tax base and save properly for emergencies and retirement.
